UK fashion retailer River Island has issued a recall on five items due to heavy metal contamination.  These products contain traces of cadmium and lead in excess of the European Union (EU) legally permitted levels.   Toxic heavy metals in clothing and fashion accessories are nothing new.  In 2013, the New York Times reported on the dangers of brightly colored accessories found at many common retailers.   Testing showed that products in red, green, yellow and orange were more likely to be contaminated than those of darker or more muted colors.
