Protecting Children from Lead Exposure Worldwide

According to UNICEF in a new report from July 2020, “1 in 3 children – up to 800 million globally – have blood lead levels at or above 5 micrograms per deciliter (µg/dL), the level at which requires action. Nearly half of these children live in South Asia.” Lead can do serious damage to the development in children’s health, development and learning for the rest of their lives. UNICEF has now partnered with Pure Earth and the Clarios Foundation to find ways to prevent children from being exposed to lead from informal smelting operations.

The good news is that through education, advertising campaigns and safety initiatives, lead poisoning among children can be greatly reduced. Do your part and make sure to always recycle used lead acid batteries and take precautions when handling lead during any recreational activities.
